FROM FORT PIKE TO MONOCACY -- A TOUR OF CIVIL WAR SITES
Are there Civil War sites you’ve never heard of, or not seen? This presentation will take you on a narrated tour of some lesser known Civil Wat sites, along with some that are better known. The tour starts outside New Orleans with Fort Pike, then on to Biloxi to see Beauvoir, Jefferson Davis’ last home Then on to Fort Gaines in Mobile Bay; and, then to Andersonville Prison. The next stops are the battlefields around Chattanooga. Then, after a stop at Shiloh, it is on to Brices Crossroads, and Vicksburg, with the final stop in Monocacy, Maryland. Come to this meeting, to be enlightened and entertained, as George Dore describes his amazing trip, and tells the stories of many places you are not likely to have seen, or to get around to seeing.
Mr. George T. Dore
George earned his Bachelor of Science degree, majoring in Civil Engineering from Louisiana Tech University; and, earned a Master of Science degree, in Civil Engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology. While at Louisiana Tech he was awarded the Sons of American Revolution medal, as a cadet in Air Force ROTC. He also watched Terry Bradshaw play quarterback for four years while in college. He is a Registered Professional Engineer in four states, and has been involved in the Central Artery project in Boston, Massachusetts; the Orange County Toll Roads; and, the I-15 / I-215 Devore interchange.
George retired as a Commander (O-5) from the Naval Reserve, and he is a Past Camp Commander of the Sedgewick-Granger Camp No. 17 (Orange County,) of the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War.
Of more importance, as it relates to this talk, George toured all of the sites in this presentation, and took most of the photos in the slideshow. He has previously given it to the Orange County CWRT.
